Moray is one of the registration counties of Scotland. Nestled in the world-famous whisky region, Elgin lies on the south coast of the Moray Firth roughly midway between Inverness and Aberdeen and straddles the River Lossie.
With many pleasant characteristics, Elgin has breathtaking scenery and a number of local distilleries such as Glenmoray, Gordon & MacPhail and Glen Elgin, some of which have open days for the public.
Elgin, Forres and Lossiemouth are heavily dependent on Royal Air Force stations for employment of civilians. Other areas offering significant employment are local authority, construction and real estate, food and drink, tourism, transport, business services and wholesale/retail.
Situated on the A96 trunk route, Elgin connects to the cities of Aberdeen and Inverness. The A941 runs from Lossiemouth through Elgin to Rothes, Craigellachie, Dufftown and Rhynie. Elgin railway station connects to Aberdeen and Inverness, which then connect to other UK destinations. Elgin's bus station is operated mainly by Stagecoach, providing services to other local towns as well as Aberdeen and Inverness. A 'Jet' bus service runs to Inverness Airport at Dalcross, which has flights to UK destinations. Aberdeen airport offers UK and international flights for those with serviced offices in Morayshire requiring access to international travel.
