Fleet Street makes up a famous part of London’s history and was the setting for the story of Sweeny Todd. Area history
Named after London’s largest underground river, the River Fleet, Fleet Street was once the centre of British Journalism and is widely regarded as one of London’s most historically important streets. With a history dating back to the 1400s, this street features some beautiful architecture and is a popular tourist destination.
Population and demographics
The Fleet Street area has a population of 1,046 and an average age of 30. While 69% of people here are educated to degree level, only 5% are currently students.
Being centrally located, Fleet Street is moments away from convenient transport links.
Barclays Hire Bike Hubs scatter the area, allowing employees of businesses here to take advantage of the cycle routes around the city.
City Thameslink Station connects with many over-ground services, for tenants of offices who prefer to travel by main line rail.
St Paul’s Underground Station connects occupants to the Central line, which transects the centre of London. There is a connection to the District and Circle London Underground lines at Temple Station, about four minutes’ walk to the south-west. London Blackfriars, to the south-east, also offers links to these lines, as well as an over-ground connection to Thameslink and Southeastern train lines, for travel across London and beyond.
