Gwynedd is an area in north-west Wales; it is the second biggest in terms of geographical area and also one of the most sparsely populated. A large proportion of the population is Welsh-speaking. Caernarfon, a royal town, community and port in Gwynedd, Wales, lies along the A487 road, on the eastern shore of the Menai Straits and opposite the Isle of Anglesey. The new Caernarfon railway station in St. Helen's Road is the northern terminus of the narrow gauge Rheilffordd Eryri / Welsh Highland Railway.
